Beau Navire

Okay, I took specific time for this post. One of my all time favorite skramz/hardcore punk/screamo bands that are out, and these dudes are hot on there releases. I knew these dudes when they were barely working on that Demo tape and were called "Life Moves" I am not sure why they changed the name but Beau Navire is fucking cool as well. I hate side a/Side B mp3 track sets, I fucking hate that shit. But this band is very memorable for my hard struggle and my content side of my life. I do remember around December 2010, I dropped my first Ecstasy pill. I remember feeling all good, tripping out on that horrible robot chicken and I decided to hear Beau Navire for the hell of it. Well while on E I fucking flipped out on the demo version of "Fitting pieces" (My favorite all time favorite old song by beau) My heart was content and happy for living in this world where I can hear this song. Deep inside I did say to myself "This sounds like shit but its such a pretty song" Well I also heard there song "Ship to Shore" that beggining slow part gave me a warm feeling in my concious. I had the best E trip of my life listening to those 2 songs on non stop the whole night. Since then I have matured my life and felt a sort of change in this body. Its pretty fucking crazy even to explain this change. I happened to own Beau Navire's "Hours" on CD which I got for like $5 at bear records I believe or radical friends. One of the labels sells it or was seeling it for $5 while the other was selling it for $10. I also grabbed a copy of there original bands name release "Life Moves" I thought this vinyl was cool for the fact since its a one side on the back side of the record contains the lyrics of the 7 tracks. That is pretty fucking brain thinking genius. And lastly I own that glow in the dark Adobe homes/Beau Navire split, it was more of a gift kinda since I ordered a Love Animals Forever Beau Navire shirt they didn't had any so they sent me a BK Boxing shirt along with this record. I thought it was fucking cool since I like AH and BN. Theres been 2 releases so far from BN this year, Lumens and that republic of dreams split. Lumesn, I thought it was a decent great record, but not as badass as Hours or Life Moves. There split though actually has a reminding of Hours as if those 2 songs off the split were on Hours (Which are not) so I thought the split was nice. There split they did with suffix in 2011; by the way did Suffix break up? I mean Anne is now in Lord Snow and other members of suffix went to form some other stuff, but since suffix never mentioned they broke up, well I will cover that on another post since Suffix is another great band I like along with Lord Snow. BN did 3 tracks on the Suffix split though 2 of the tracks sound like they shouldve been one but seperated the tracks into 2 don't know why but I am still fine with that. Tracks are pretty cool one of them actually came way before the split was even made which was in that That's Punk Compilation. It was the only reason I checked that compilation which that was where I heard of the band El Spectre, Trampoline dreamers, and the shitty acoustic band Teens. Well anyways I am going to review a little something on every release beau did.

Demo tape 2009
Well let me first state what I kinda know of this demo, a few were made about 30 or 40, they came in small zip bags and from what I've heard a patch? (BN should make patches, I been dying to have one on my sweater) The demo appears to have 6 tracks along with a bonus hidden track "Fitting Pieces" it personally is my favorite song and version by BN it is what made me fall in love with BN. Some of these songs were later added to the first length "Life Moves" While songs Diary of the sun, The house from Cellar to Garret, Heartwarmers and My, My... You've Grown were only on the demo tape whle Fitting pieces, Crocosmia, and Ceilings revealing cities went on to newer recorded versions on life moves. For there Demo this tape is fucking awesome. It's the first I heard of BN though I didnt get a chance to buy there demo tape, when I downloaded this demo tape it had that side a/side b mp3 format, I hate that shit so I later found a file with the songs seperated from each other. I did noticed both files have different versions of songs. on the side a/side b the versions of the songs have a better quality and the intro to Fitting Pieces you can hear Jon shouting something about friends while the other version of the seperate tracks fitting pieces just starts off without Jon shouting. I don't know if there were 2 different versions of this demo tape but from what I heard it sounds like there are 2 versions which I havent seen in any blog covering this part of the demo or cover anything of the demo besides a description of the band and a download link to the demo. The demo came out in 2009. They changed there name to Beau Navire before releasing this demo tape. This demo is just the beggining path to BN. 8.5/10
FYI I posted both versions of the demo tape in the same file.

Myspace songs 2009
I am guessing the 2 tracks of these "Myspace songs were early versions which were later put in "Life Moves" Technicolor, Technicolor and Thumbreaker. These were the actual 2 songs I sat and listened to by beau navire since the demo link had that side a and side b and at the time I hated hated (Still kinda do) they also released a acoustic version of technicolor called "Fuck it, take 18" they did a neat ass job on these tracks. The quality on these songs are fucking groovy. There is nothing much else to say than that these tracks were the first I heard then the demo. 7.5/10

Te Lloraría Un Puto Río/Carrion Spring/The Discord Of A Forgotten Sketch/Beau Navire 4 way split 8" 2009
This split was also done in 2009 and has my favorite BN track as well "Ship to Shiore" There was a video on vimeo of a short music video of Ship to Shore I really don't know why it got deleted but it was a fucking cool short video of Beau playing inside an apartment. The song "These waves" is a great song as well and the early ones I heard to but the intro to "Ship to shore" brings such a content happy feeling, soft, mellow, content relaxation til the song gets all wild up and fast; that shit always gets to me when I hear this song. I think this split is now sold out. But I wouldve bought it just for that song. 8.5/10

Beau Navire/Adobe Homes Split 7" 2011
Well this is one of the releases I own. the split is a green glow in the dark. It has 2 songs one of BN and one of AH, both songs are cool. BN track is okay. It's not really a favorite of fine or a favorite split for that matter but its a nice release of 2 cool bands. I do remember some labels like Texas toast, Radical friends and Olhar de vidro were talking about this split back in December 2010 how it will be a glow in a dark split. I am not sure if they are a re press or will be one. But I am saving this split it will be very valueable in the future. Not many splits I know of are glow in the dark. That was a pretty good idea for a split, I do wonder how much was the cost to make all these splits. The vinyl were going for $5 a piece, who knows only friends of those bands and the labels know. 7/10

Life moves 12" 2011
I happen to own this record as well it contains previous songs Crocosmia, Ceilings revealing cities and fitting pieces as the last tracks on this length and Technicolor, technicolor and thumbreaker as well and 2 new tracks Whisper and March of 03. These songs are fucking awesome, Well this length is fucking good. I remember checking BN blog back in 2010 I remember them mentioning of this Full length, the cover art, etc. Though I will say it took them a while but I am glad this release came out fine. I got this record as a Christmas gift in 2011. I still spin it and smoke weed to it. It is a great length. It has a mixture of the old BN and the new coming BN. So it isn't those records where you hear a completely new sound to the band. It still has that demo reminding and a newish sound to it at the same time, I thought it was perfect for a record. 8/10

Suffix/Beau Navire Split 7" 2011
This is one of the records I didn't get. I love BN but I don't know it wasn't much of a favorite release of mine. Though I do respect both bands and are fucking good. Well the split is actually good to tell you the truth and both bands did a excellent job too. But on Navire's side theres 3 songs on this split though I will say the first 2 tracks Space Heaters Scattered trails and sound like there where split into 2 tracks instead of both of them as one. Good songs though Trei takes on the first track which sounds like the intro to the second track and the second track Jon shouts. the last track Sanctus Locus has a very fucking catchy rythmn and my favorite track off this split. Somewhat it reminds me of those 90's screamo bands. Well they did a great job on this track, this track was also featured on a Compilation which was actually released on the compilation first then a few months later released on this split. Just thinking about that I sort of had a flashback of those times. 7.5/10

Hours 2011
Yeah, I own the shit of the CD version for a major reason. To hear it wherever I go driving. Many have said "Album of the Year" which was released in 2011 I couldn't agree more. Hours was a fucking masterpiece to the DIY Community. Though Capsule also released "No Ghost" that same year and around the time "Hours was released. I will say Both albums are great and are remembered for being the best in 2011. Hours has more of a darker side to BN and more somewhat Chaotic. Songs sound a bit gloomier but when they kick heavy on the head banging part the drummer kris will fucking knock your head out with the fast crazy paste drum rythmn. I as well bought BN Hours shirt right when it came out on black since this album had a darker feel to the BN releases I believe getting the shirt in black would be the best. Since it was released in grey. Your can hear Trei's voice screaming in desperation while Jon shouts sounding like Jon is trying to calm Trei down from some anxiety. You can specifically hear it in the sound of the songs. But it goes into a mixture of anger, sadness, and gloom like feeling. I even thought the concept of the album artwork was fucking magnificent a guy falling in the bed turning into sand. Im guessing him turning into sand and Hours have some common with the title of the album which is hours. It even has some piano into the backgroun on some of the songs. I really digged this album. I even slept to this album, bad idea I woked up mad as fuck trei's screaming got stuck in my head and him sounding angry while I was sleeping I woked up angry as hell ready to punch my dog in the face. My favorite songs on this album would be Reinventing the veil, Cloud city, "It's not an art, it's a Myth", Lost and leaving, and Remnants. The tracks intrelude, Respire (Meta), and Respire (sync) are some nice instrumental tracks which brings the whole concept of the gloomy album together and has some strong effect to it. I really think this is far a great album of the century ever since in 2003 the release of .moneen.'s second full length "Are we really happy with who we are right now?". 10/10

Lumens 2012
Lumens unlike Hours, it has less of a gloomier theme to it. Though it kinda has some resemble to songs of hours. I am glad the band played it safe not changing to much of there sound just taking off the gloomier side of the previous album. The album sorta has a flashback to how the feeling of Hours was. Well whenever I hear both of these albums it sorta feels like that for me. It's like Hours was much heavier on the darker side and gloomy while Lumens is much of a flashback to Hours with less of a darker feel to it. This album doesn't bring a brighter feel to it neither but isn't dark as well. I really did like the 10 songs on Lumens. The songs that were outstanding to me were Communique, Dead end, Start over, Podebrady and Our Illumination. Since the album color is grey it brings more of a grey feeling to the album and when I think of gery I think of black and white, and thinking of black and white it reminds me of a flashback then of a flashback I say to myself a flashback of what? A flashback to there last album "Hours" which is dark just like the albums color. BN did a kickass job on this album. But I won't say "Album of the year" well not just yet. 9.5/10

Beau Navire/Republic of Dreams Split 7" 2012
After Lumens being released about a good month or 2 this split came along. I wont lie but the 2 tracks done by BN were excellent. Ghostlike sounds like a song that couldve been in Hours. It's a great song. Which gave me a flashback just like Lumens did to Hours. This track gave me a flashback to Hours. Phalanx of lenses actually reminds me of a track that couldve been on Lumens. It's fucking trippy to be honest. 2 tracks that remind you of 2 albums beau navire has done. It feels like a crash of Hours and Lumens are stiched together. For being there latest release it's not so bad. I am not much of a fan of Republic of dreams. But I BN side is fucking crazy just to think that one song has a Hours feeling and another to Lumens. Wow. 9.5/10

Well I am sure, BN has more releases to make before they call it a quits someday and turn into sand. BN has played a great ton of shows and whenever I think of Oakland I think of Beau Navire. Whenever I think of Skramz BN is one of they few I think of first. Whenever anyone asks for a reccomindation for a good band I listen to I give them BN first. It's the first band that comes to my head. I been wanting to this post ever since StillLifeWithCandle started. Until now, I finally posted. I am a big fan of Iwrotehaikusaboutcannibalsiminyouryearbook once I heard when I.W.H.A.C.I.Y.Y was doing a discography LP I also heard of "life moves" (Now Beau Navire) were as a band and working on a demo tape. I was so psyched when I heard the news. When I thought of Trei going to "Life moves" (Beanu Navire) I thought of a Iwrotehaikus and a second iwrotehaikus. I then found out that Trei started a band that was very shortlived called Xochtil I had a feeling BN wont have a iwrotehaikus sound. On there demo tape, BN had a more rhythm sound of iwrotehaikus. By the time of there later releases Beau Navire had there own sound as "Beau Navire". Well I had to upload the Demo, Suffix/Beau navire split, and Lumens. Most of the mediafire files were deleted for some stupid reason, but hey. Support this band as well and buy there shit too. Its better to have mp3 file and a physical copy of what they have. Dont be a cheap bastard and not buy any merch of them. So support these awesome fucking dudes. I want to hear more music and releases from them. Check there labels and buy some shit. You will help BN, the label, Friends, you yourself as well

Buy hours on cd
Buy Suffix/Beau navire split

Buy merch of beau navire
